Estonian Embassy in Washington brings Estonia in Concert: The Music of Arvo Pärt to Kennedy Center on May 27, 2014 in Washington.
The Concert takes place in the Concert Hall of the Kennedy Center (seating capacity: 2442). This is a free and public event – seating is on a first-come first-serve basis and subject to capacity.
The event will take place in the presence of the President of the Republic of Estonia Toomas Hendrik Ilves and Maestro Arvo Pärt.
Estonia in Concert: The Music of Arvo Pärt is a unique event where the top musicians from Estonia come together to perform the works of Estonia’s most famous composer. His works have been the most performed of any living composer in the world – three years in a row. This concert will be the highlight of Estonian Culture in Washington, also featured as a main event of the European Month of Culture Festival by the European Union in the United States
Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir and Tallinn Chamber Orchestra were founded by Tõnu Kaljuste. Both groups have been performing and recording Pärt’s music for decades. This year, conductor Tõnu Kaljuste won the Grammy for Best Choral Performance for his work on Arvo Pärt’s album “Adam’s Lament” – recorded with the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, the Sinfonietta Riga, the Latvian Radio Choir and the Vox Clamantis ensemble.
The event has become a reality thanks to the generous support of the Ministry of Culture of Estonia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, Estonian organizations, Honorary Consuls and individual donors in the U.S. Special thanks to St. Vladimir’s Seminary in New York for initiating theArvo Pärt Project
