Tallinn University 5th Winter School kicked-off with record number of students

Tallinn University’s fifth international winter school (January 6 – 24, 2014) brings together a record number of students – 50 participants from 22 different countries have joined the intensive winter courses. The number of students is remarkable, considering that only 4 years ago in the very first Tallinn Winter School there were 19 participants.

The programme includes 3 courses: Estonian and Russian language courses and a workshops in interaction design. Throughout the years, Estonian language course has been the most popular one, but this year there are just as many people learning Russian.
However, Tallinn Winter School is more than just intensive study courses: the cultural programme in the afternoon and during weekends which includes an international evening, museum visits, lectures, movie nights and a trip to Lahemaa National Park. The trip is always one of the most fun events in winter school, giving the participants a chance to get to know more about the nature and history of Estonia and also to enjoy the sauna culture.

For many, the winter school atmosphere is unforgettable. Thomas, one of the participants in 2013 has summed it up: “Tallinn Winter School brought us together……after these three weeks we ended up as one big family, which, by now, is scattered all around the world again but it is to mention that in our hearts we will still be connected for a long, long time. We arrived in Estonia as individuals and left this exceptional country as friends. This is one of my experiences as a participant of Tallinn Winter School…”

The next similar, but much bigger event will be Tallinn Summer School in July, with more than 20 courses and around 300 participants.
