Estonian Association of Information Technology and Telecommunications recognized TUTs study program Integrated Engineering

Estonian Association of Information Technology and Telecommunications recognized Tallinn University of Technology’s (TUT) new international engineering faculties-wide Bachelor’s study program “Integrated Engineering” in the category: the Idea of the Year.

Tiit Paananen, Board Member of the Estonian Association of Information Technology and Telecommunications, said, “In addition to the development of the ICT sector, it is important to promote the capacity of other branches of industry to use ICT. ICT skills in other sectors are an important source for creating added value in economy“.

Tauno Otto, Dean of TUT Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, said, “The Integrated Engineering study program is the first English language Bachelor study programme in the field of engineering in Estonia; similar broad engineering study programs have been popular elsewhere in Europe (mainly in UK), the USA and Canada. Almost all the TUT faculties of science and engineering participated in compiling the study program and together they found a balance between different disciplines, which enables the graduates of the study program to continue their education in a broader range of Master’s study programs. There is a strong link between the subjects of the study programs and smart specializations – ICT and more efficient use of resources – in Estonia. I hope that the graduates will find an opportunity to acquire free high-level undergraduate education here in Estonia, get experience in international cooperation, and are well-prepared for continuing their studies at Master’s level at engineering faculties at any of the world’s top universities.

The study program relies greatly on the Innovation and Business Centre Mektory, which accommodates the required 24/7 prototyping labs and group work facilities for contemporary problem-based learning – comprehensive course projects form a significant part of the syllabus.“

While most of engineering programs provide training in classical disciplines, the TUT’s study program Integrated Engineering unites various disciplines of engineering in order to meet the growing demand for engineers with diverse skills and knowledge both in industry as well as in small scale enterprises.

Studying in the Integrated Engineering study program is free in case of full study load and a tuition fee must be paid in case of partial study load.

Major subjects: Industrial Design Basics, Fundamentals of Logistics, Metrology and Measurement Engineering, Computer Aided Design, Polymeric Materials: Synthesis and Properties, Fundamentals of Sustainable Energy Engineering, Problem Solving, Mechatronics, Hydraulics and Pneumatics, NC Programming and CAM Systems, Basics of Production Engineering, Introduction to Robotics, Machine Automation, Thermal Engineering, Electrical Drives and Power Electronics, Materials Engineering.
