Overview
The voice studies programme offers instruction in classical repertoire, ranging from the Baroque to the late Romantic periods, while exploring the various singing schools associated with these eras. Contemporary techniques and repertoire from the 20th and 21st centuries are also incorporated into the curriculum.
Students benefit from ample individual instruction and are provided with many opportunities to perform in our state-of-the-art concert spaces. We believe it is crucial for students to be well-rounded and thoroughly prepared for their future careers in concert halls and opera houses. In addition to vocal techniques, our programme teaches acting skills and theatre theory, elocution and stage speech, body techniques and stage movement, as well as dance and stage makeup from different eras. Oratorio and ensemble performance offers instruction in vocal techniques in various styles, ranging from the Baroque period to the present day. Students gain experience in a cappella ensemble performance as well as performing with various instrumental ensembles.
In the Opera Studio students prepare roles and perform excerpts from operas under the guidance of various directors, conductors, choreographers and repetiteurs. Each spring, a full opera featuring selected voice studies students is performed for the public. Our Opera Studio also regularly collaborates with the Estonian National Opera.
Over the years, we have staged more than fifty operas, most of which have been in collaboration with professional music theatres, directors, and conductors such as Taisto Noor, Liis Kolle, Hermann Keckeis, Thomas Wiedenhofer, Georg Rootering, Stephan Jöris, Pekka Saloma, Ilkka Bäckman, Kim von Binzer, Giorgio Bongiovanni and Marco Gandini. The EAMT Symphony Orchestra and students from the Stage Design Department at the Estonian Academy of Arts also participate in these Opera Studio performances.
